A
cool flight

Graham Garnett
At the 9.30 'compass' task briefing our
brave, innovative?! CFI Gordon set this
rather unlikely task, the third leg of
which, if flown on track would put you
some miles out to sea for about 60k along
the leg! |

Alan Jacobs (pilot and crew respectively)
entered Euroglide 2004, a 2000km gliding

755k
at 100kph - in April!
|

David
Masson
The story had already begun by Friday
12th April - I 'd seen the effects of
the very dry ground coupled with good
air and enjoyed about 30 hours in some
unexpectedly good early season weather,
a fair amount of cross country and cloudbases
of 5-6000ft on several days. That Friday
was fairly classic for a few hours, but
I missed it - I sent Karen, my wife, flying
and she enjoyed it instead. Perhaps one
of the best diplomatic moves I've ever
made?......

How long does it take to learn to fly
fast? What about flying long distances?
How do you get the very best out of the

available nowadays?
Do you understand basic sports psychology,
weather forecasting, competition rules?

The Slingsby T21, otherwise known
as a Sedburgh is perhaps the most well
known and recognisable British glider
in the world. With its huge high wings,
massive rudder and barge like cockpit
there really isn't anything else quite
like it......

The sky and I have a love hate relationship.
I love it, while it shows nothing but
contempt. Spits me out after 6 minutes

Try
the tiny triangle

Alan
Purnell
This article, written for Sailplane &
Gliding in 1977, became a classic and
was referred to for many years.
Gliding Magazine have reprinted it by kind
permission of the British Gliding Association
in memory of Alan who was killed in a
mid air collision on April 26 2004.
Although written all those years ago, the
article is as fresh as ever, making many
valid points and gives advice countless
inexperienced pilots have undoubtedly
found helpful. |

I found a puzzling thing on my doormat.
Someone had sent me a copy of "Sailplane
