There are two basic course classifications, The Solo to Bronze and the Bronze to Silver, both are aimed at consolidation and progression through training.

The aim is to train towards the requirements of the Bronze or Silver badge and includes two-seat flying and solo flights.

Solo to Bronze

As much as possible we deal with the practicalities of gliding and whilst a small amount of theory work is necessary, it is never forgotten that this should not outweigh the practical considerations of our sport. Classroom work is directed towards the requirements for the Bronze written exam but always with the emphasis on the soaring pilot.

Although we recommend you have access to a glider it is not wholly necessary. An ASK 8b glider can be made available for those requiring it subject to availability.

Although the intention is to work towards completing the Bronze requirements, the final flying and handling test can only be completed with signed permission from your CFI, (please see details on the Bronze application form).

Bronze to Silver

Targeted towards completing the cross-country endorsement and working through the requirements for the Silver badge, you will be flying dual cross-countries in the ASK 21, Grob Acro or Duo Discus where cross-country techniques can be learnt and practised with the confidence that an experienced pilot gives. These skills can then be put into practice during your silver duration, distance and other solo cross-country flights.

Field landing training and refresher flying can be undertaken in our two-seater motor glider with additional navigation training as required.

Classroom work will include morning briefings and post-flight discussions, cross-country techniques and soaring advice, map preparation and navigation, airspace and route planning, weather interpretation and task-setting considerations as well as other topics subject to requirements.

We would hope to run mutual retrieve arrangement so no crew is required unless you want to bring one along but as a minimum you would require a car capable of towing.
