Youth Membership Categories

The membership category is determined depending upon your age on 1st January in the current year.

Under 18's: For individuals aged between 15 to 17 years old.

Lasham Gliding Society provides free membership and subsidies to help with the costs involved in learning to fly.

This membership has the added advantage of being organised by a Lasham Gliding Society member, Bob Johnson who also acts as the Lasham Gliding Society Child Protection Officer. Bob is a retired British Airways Captain. In addition to 1000's of hour's commercial flying experience, Bob has many years of gliding experience to draw upon. He is a fully qualified British Gliding Association glider and motor glider instructor. For some years Bob has acted as the Under 18's co-ordinator and all initial enquiries and application forms should be addressed to him. Bob can be contacted through Lasham Gliding Society

Under 21's: For individuals aged between 18 and 20 years old.

Lasham Gliding Society offers a reduced membership fee and subsidised flying costs.

Under 26's: For individuals aged between 21 to 25 years old.

Lasham Gliding Society offers a reduced membership fee and Lasham Youth are able to provide, due to generous donations from Lasham Gliding Society members, some subsidies towards flying costs (dependent upon available funds).

Youth Flying Costs (Lasham Owned Gliders) 2006
For flying members of Lasham Gliding Society there are three costs to be met:

1. Annual Membership
2. Launch Costs (either a winch launch or an aerotow behind a light aircraft)
3. Soaring Charges (hire of the glider, priced per minute)

The published standard costs for Full Flying members in 2008 are:

• Annual Membership £415
• Winch Costs £7.75
• Aerotow (2000ft) £27.00
• Soaring Charges £ per minute

In order to support youth flying, Lasham Gliding Society provides significant financial help to individuals under 26 years of age in the following way:

Under 18 Membership (15 to 17 years)

• Winch Costs £ half published prices
• Aerotow (2000ft) £ half published prices
• Soaring Charges £ nil
• Lasham run courses £ half published prices

Under 21 Membership (18 to 20 years)

• Annual Membership £52
• Winch Costs £ half published prices
• Aerotow (2000ft) £ full published prices
• Soaring Charges £ half published prices
• Lasham run courses £ half published prices

Under 26 Membership (21 to 25 years)

• Annual Membership £104
• Winch Costs £ full published prices
• Aerotow (2000ft) £ full published prices
• Soaring Charges £ half published prices
• Lasham run courses £half published prices

Reductions in launch and soaring costs as approved by Lasham Youth Committee, using charitable donations from Lasham Gliding Society members.
